Lyrics

Verse 1

Not much more than a boy
Went to school till I was thirteen
worked the farm with my ma and pa
drove the wagon to town with the team

Verse 2

The gunman rode into town that day
huntin’ money, whiskey and a fight
the rumor that spread caused the town folk to dread
that he could fast draw quicker than light

Chorus 1

You may think to be feared would make you free
and respect comes from bein’ the best
but you  better take care for men wantin’ their share
of The Fastest Gun in the West

Verse 3

We met in the street where he spit at my feet
and he called me words I didn’ know
I should have backed down but refused to give ground
so we eyed each other toe to toe

Verse 4

He was quicker than I but his gun only clicked
my bullet hit him right in the heart.
He fell to ground with barley a sound
That’s how I got my gun fighter start.

Verse 5

The news spread like fire there’s a new gun for hire.
Which marked me as the man to beat.
I kissed my ma and shook hands with my pa
and left with only my gun and the boots on my feet

Chorus 1

You may think to be feared would make you free
and respect comes with bein’ the best
but you  better take care for men wantin’ their share
of The Fastest Gun in the West

Chorus 2

An empty life will be found when you live on the ground
And you can’t find a place to rest
Cause its safer to roam than being at home
when your the Fastest Gun in the West

Synopsis

This song rattled around the author’s head for about a year before it actually leaked out. It’s a loose metaphor for the work place where the young bright and motivated kids are coming from college and other companies to challenge the way things are. It’s also a good old fashioned cowboy story. Maybe someone will make a miniseries TV show based on this song someday.
